It is noted that the average annual sea level rise at The Battery in lower Manhattan, when measured since 1990, now exceeds 5 mm/year. That's 2 inches a decade. The rate of sea level rise at all NOAA tide stations up and down the East Coast that we analysed lay between 3.39 mm/year and 6.43 mm/year for the period of January 1990 through August 2024.
Global Mean Sea Level has been rising over the past century, and its progression will likely continue into the future. Low elevation coastal communities face a multitude of problems from the gradual rising sea level.
